It’s been a while since I asked people what they wanted to see from Dining Out – and in fact, I am actually overdue a bit of a state of the nation so I promise I will ask everyone again soon (you can find me at @hiyalauren_ and Dining Out also has its own account which is @dining___out) – but last time I did, there was one thing that loads of people agreed on: set menus.
London is a city full of extremely good set menu deals, the most obvious – Quality Chop House and Noble Rot’s three course weekday lunches for £29 – probably also being the best. If, like me, you have a job where you have to work during the week, however, these are probably not a huge amount of good to you, except on special occasions, like when you’ve got a week off and inevitably left it too late to actually book a holiday, or your boss graciously allows you a day off for your birthday or whatever. This is the case with a lot of set menus – they’re often available off peak, so they’re difficult to maximise on without a reasonable amount of planning.
Today, then, I thought I would mention a holy grail of mine that I’ve somehow never actually written about for this newsletter before: a gaff where you can pay £29 for the set menu on a Sunday (a Sunday!), and you get a choice for every course. Plus, it’s actually really good.
