What I will say is this: I don’t necessarily endorse going out for pancakes on Pancake Day because I sort of think the spirit of the thing is to be found in making a dreadful mess in your kitchen, the inevitably terrible first pancake and giving your housemate a row about how much flour to put in the batter. HOWEVER, this is a newsletter about Dining Out, and so that is what I will advise you on. So, should you find yourself unwilling or unable to make shroves this coming Tuesday, here are some places where I have enjoyed them in the past:
Sunday in Brooklyn, Notting Hill
Sunday in Brooklyn is exactly what you’d expect, really: a very New York style place in Notting Hill where the dishes are expensive and skew American, part diner, part Erewhon. The Sunday Pancake follows this, and it is also an absolute beast: one order gets you one singular, huge, table-filling pancake, covered in a toffee-y, brown buttery-y sauce, with some maple butter for good measure. It is completely delicious – one of the best things on a menu where everything sounds great but can be a bit mid in practice – and well worth tagging onto your order for sharing, should you find yourself in Notting Hill for brekkie or lunch (or the in between meal commonly known as “brunch”).
