Dining Out: Five Sandwiches I Have Known and Loved
I swear I’m going to stop talking about sandwiches after this.
Everyone (including me) is going on and on about sandwiches at the minute, I guess because the UK (or London at least) seems, blessedly, to finally have caught up to American sandwich culture. We have moved past the dominant ideology of floppy little slivers in packets in the Tesco fridge, and into a brave new world of even more dedicated sandwich shops, Instagrammy pop-ups, and concertina folds of cold cuts between bread clogging up social media feeds. They’ve always been around, obviously, but 2024 has, undoubtedly, been their McConnaughey-in-2013 moment.
Regular readers of Dining Out will know that I am an enormous proponent of sandwiches – every pub should do at least one that is not a burger – but I’ve not actually told you about any of my favourites, other than the ones that have come up in places I’ve reviewed. As such, I thought that for this week’s paid post, I would just write about five great sandwiches, collected here firstly because they are each unusual or memorable or interesting (some are more stalwart than others), and secondly because I really liked them all and it’s my newsletter! I’m the boss! Leggo:
